MOU Signing

 

Qingdao, 6 July 2026 – On 6 July 2026, the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), China, and Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences (LUAWMS), Pakistan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Qingdao, marking a new chapter in bilateral marine science and technology cooperation.

Prior to the signing, Prof. Zexun Wei, Director General of FIO, welcomed Prof. Abdul Malik, Vice Chancellor of LUAWMS, noting that marine cooperation is a key pillar of the all-weather China-Pakistan strategic partnership. Prof. Abdul Malik highlighted LUAWMS's role as Pakistan's only marine university and expressed strong expectations for tangible outcomes from this partnership.
 

During the exchange, representatives from the UNESCO/IOC-ODC Center, the DCC-OCC Center, and the OSF Office presented their international cooperation activities and engaged in in-depth discussions with the Pakistani delegation. As a long-standing platform for marine training and data sharing, the UNESCO/IOC-ODC Center has played a key role in fostering substantive collaboration between FIO and research institutions in Belt and Road countries.

Both sides agreed that the MoU provides a robust mechanism for future joint projects and talent cultivation, and represents a meaningful contribution to building a shared maritime future. They reaffirmed their commitment to advancing regional marine sustainable development through this partnership.
